Mrs Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the IMF, praised the initiative of Ethics in Finance – Robin Cosgrove Prize for its longstanding commitment (10 years) to stimulate young professionals and academics to think in an innovative way about ethics in finance.
The Governor, François Villeroy de Galhau, stressed in his speech the complementarity of stricter rules AND ethical behaviors, and showed that any attempt to present them as an alternative is deemed to fail.
The Secretary General of the OECD, Angel Gurría, congratulated the Prize winners for “their ground-breaking work, their efforts in promoting ethics, responsibility and trust in the world of finance”
The European Commissioner for Financial Services, Financial Stability, and Capital Markets Union, Ms. Mairead McGuinness, said that « This Ethics and Trust in Finance prize has a really compelling narrative – that more ethical finance can help rebuild trust in the sector. »
Mr. Jean-Paul Servais, Chair of International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), explained that « the pursuit of ethical conduct in finance is not a mere regulatory obligation but a shared responsibility »
Mr. Guillaume Eliet (Euroclear) concluded his inspiring speech by stating that “ethics in finance is not just about avoiding harm. It’s about preserving human judgment, protecting diversity of thought and ensuring accountability even in an age of intelligent machines.”
